UW-Madison MOOCs: Building Massive Open Online Communities

Welcome to our massive open online community! Since launching four Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) during the 2013-14 school year, more than 135,600 learners from 50 states and 141 countries have been connected to UW-Madison in a new way. I am excited to watch this global learning community continue to grow as we launch six new MOOCs in 2015.

I am very enthusiastic about our latest round of MOOCs, which incorporate shared themes of sustainability and the environment, while highlighting our creative and interdisciplinary work in the digital humanities. Our goal in 2015 is to use MOOCs as one way to reach out to citizens across our state and around the world, inspire critical thinking and encourage conversations about the connections, challenges, and tradeoffs that characterize our relationships to the natural world, our communities and to one another.

Partnering with communities in our state and beyond will be an important component of this round of MOOCs. We hope to highlight the creativity and talent that we have in Wisconsin and share our state’s wealth of intellectual resources with a global audience, while also creating new networks and learning communities locally.

I hope that you will join us on our next learning adventure. On Wisconsin!
